The safety of everyone using the bike path, sidewalks and roadways is a priority for the Palm Beach Police Department. In the State of Florida, bicycles are considered vehicles and both cars and bicycles must share the road. Additionally, bicyclists must watch for pedestrians on roadways, bike paths and sidewalks.
1. In the Town of Palm Beach, riding on the sidewalk in commercial zones is prohibited by Town ordinance.
2. Watch for pedestrians. Pass pedestrians with care by first announcing “on your left” or “passing on your left” and/or using a bell. If you need to pass a pedestrian - slow down, considerably and give ample space.
3. Always use bicycle lights at night. Assume drivers do not see you. Having a white light on the front of your bike, as well as a red light and reflector on the back of your bike, which are required by law.
4. Our bike path and sidewalks are not bicycle freeways; obey the posted 10 MPH posted speed limit, they are public spaces to be enjoyed by everyone. Just as motorists must share the road, bicyclists choosing to use sidewalks or bike paths must be considerate of other users. The Palm Beach Police Department will enforce all applicable laws.
