[ARCHIVED] Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Recruitment

VIPS

The Palm Beach Police Department is seeking volunteers interested in joining our Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) Program.  We have volunteer positions available in the Police Department lobby at our reception/information desk.  By volunteering three hours a week you could be part of our most valued VIPS team.  Volunteers must reside in the Town of Palm Beach and pass a criminal background check prior to approval of the applicant as a volunteer.

The VIPS program and volunteer services is a way to give back to our community.  VIPS team members help the Police Department continue to provide quality customer service in a cost effective way.  VIPS team members embody the Community-Police partnership. A benefit of this partnership is improved police-community relations and increased citizen input on Police operations.

In 1987, the Help Stop Crime Section of the Office of the Attorney General of the State of Florida promoted the implementation of senior retired persons as volunteers in law enforcement agencies.  In June of 1987, the first two volunteers joined the Palm Beach Police Department.  In 2001, as the result of a national effort, the Volunteers in Police Service (VIPS) program was launched and has become a part of the Palm Beach Police Department volunteer program.
