Mayor Gail Coniglio urges residents to review the information provided by the Florida League of Cities regarding Proposal 95 and Proposal 61, which will be considered by the Constitution Revision Commission ( CRC) Local Government Committee on Friday, January 26 at 9:00am.
If passed, Proposal 61 would create a transparent process for the State Legislature to preempt the Home Rule authority of municipalities. An amendment will be offered to Proposal 61 that would require the Legislature to enact each preemption of Home Rule authority as a stand-alone bill, rather than tacked on to “must-pass” legislation during the final hours of the legislative session, without the benefit of a full debate in broad daylight. Passage of Proposal 61 would be consistent with the Mayor’s ongoing effort to maintain Home Rule for the Town and other cities across Florida. The Florida League of Cities and the Town of Palm Beach supports this proposal.
If passed, Proposal 95 would limit the power of a county, municipality, or special district to regulate commerce, trade, or labor. The Florida League of Cities and the Town of Palm Beach opposes this proposal.
Please send an email to the Chair of the CRC Local Government Committee, Erika Donalds (Erika.Donalds@flcrc.gov) or any other member of the committee to express support for Proposal 61 and opposition to Proposal 95.
Full details regarding these two proposals as well as contact information for the CRC Local Government Committee can you found in the attachment, Florida League of Cities Info Sheet.
