[ARCHIVED] Palm Beach Officials - Closely Monitoring Increase of Positive Covid Cases

Patch clear Background

Town of Palm Beach Officials are closely monitoring a rapid increase in the number of new COVID-19 cases here in Palm Beach County.

The percent of positivity here in Palm Beach County has increased from 2.4% for the week ending of March 12th to 19.23% for the week ending May 28th. This data, obtained from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), classifies South Florida as a  HIGH community level based on metrics collected by the agency.

The Town of Palm Beach reinforces and supports the prevention strategies based on guidance from the experts at the CDC with the goal of protecting the island’s vulnerable population. Town of Palm Beach residents are strongly encouraged to do the following to keep themselves safe:

Wear a mask while indoors in public

Stay up to date with Covid-19 vaccines

Get Tested if you have symptoms

Consider additional precautions for people at higher risk for severe illness

At all levels, people can wear a mask based on personal preference, informed by personal level of risk. People with symptoms, a positive test, or exposure to someone with COVID-19 should wear a mask.

Scientists predict that Covid-19 is here to stay for a prolonged period of time. Over time, our population is developing more and more immunity, either through vaccination or exposure.  The key to living with SARS-CoV-2 is found in the same approaches to other endemic diseases such as the flu. Vaccination, public health surveillance, and additional protective actions such as mask wearing when outbreaks occur are paramount in managing COVID- 19 spread. Like with other airborne diseases, people who have symptoms of COVID-19 should immediately isolate themselves and get tested to protect others from the spread of the disease.

Information regarding Covid-19 can be obtained from the CDC website
