Do you know that the Town has a Shore Protection Board? Are you in tune with what this board has accomplished in its 13-year history as an advisory board to the Town Council? On March 24, 2022, consistent with new Town Council directives, the Town’s Shore Protection Board established a new initiative to improve communication. This will include improvements to how public inquiries are handled and how information is provided back to the public. Town residents and the general public now have the ability to reach out directly to the Shore Protection Board via email through shoreboard@townofpalmbeach.com.
For example, also on March 24th, Town consultant, Applied Technology & Management, Inc., provided a presentation to the Shore Protection Board going over the annual “Sediment Budget” report. This report summarizes the data that is collected each year in comparison with both short-term and long-term trends to see where the sand is moving and where the position of the shoreline is throughout the Town’s 12.2 miles fronting the Atlantic Ocean. This presentation, the annual report, and the executive summary can be found by visiting the Town’s Coastal Protection webpage by clicking the following link Coastal Protection Webpage.
Working with The Palm Beach Civic Association, the Citizens’ Association of Palm Beach, Town staff, and Town consultants, the Shore Protection Board will present a public education series covering the Town’s Coastal Management Program. This series will kick off with a workshop in Town Council Chambers on April 28, 2022 that specifically covers two (2) important coastal topics: (1) Town-wide groins, and (2) Reach 8. The Shore Protection Board welcomes any and all to join in on the conversation.
If you have any questions or concerns please contact Robert Weber, Coastal Program Manager for the Town at (561) 838-5440.
