[ARCHIVED] Golf Carts Prohibited on Public Roads

Badge Blue Background Transparent

The Palm Beach Police Department wants to remind the community that golf carts are prohibited on public roadways and streets per Florida State Statutes 316.212. The Town of Palm Beach has not designated any roadways for permitted golf cart use. Residents may purchase Low Speed Vehicles (LSV), or have golf carts converted to LSV's, which require certain safety requirements, motor vehicle titling, insurance and registration for use on public roadways in Town. Operators of LSV's must comply with all motor vehicle laws to include having a properly licensed driver.

The usage of unregistered, uninsured golf carts by unlicensed or unauthorized minor operators on the public roadways is unsafe, and the Palm Beach Police Department is committed to keeping the community safe.  Police Officers will stop golf carts on public roadways and LSV’s driven by underage or unlicensed drivers.  Citations will be issued to parents that allow unauthorized minors to drive and unregistered vehicles (golf carts) will be towed.

For more information on LSV's, visit the FL Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles at https://www.flhsmv.gov/safety-center/consumer-education/low-speed-vehicles/
