[ARCHIVED] Bicycle-Related Traffic Law Update

Badge Blue Background Transparent

The Palm Beach Police Department is reminding the community of recent changes to State bicycle-related traffic laws from Senate Bill 950, which went into effect on July 1, 2021.

Single File Riding – Bicyclists must ride single file on the substandard width roadways in Town unless temporarily avoiding a hazard or overtaking another bicyclist.  The previous allowance for riding two abreast no longer applies in Town, due to State law changes and the width of our roadways.

Overtaking Bicyclists – Motorists may safely and briefly drive to the left over double yellow lines to pass cyclists with a minimum of 3 feet passing distance.

Bicyclist safety is important to the Palm Beach Police Department and we will be conducting increased enforcement of these laws due to safety and traffic management concerns. If you have any questions, please contact the Palm Beach Police Department at 561-838-5454.
