The Police Department has received reports of coyote sightings in the Town, primarily from Southern Blvd., to the southern end of Town.
Coyotes are a natural part of Florida’s ecosystem and maintain a presence on the island where they assist in managing rodent and small animal populations. Coyotes rarely pose a threat to people. As a precaution, we encourage our residents to keep their small pets in enclosed areas and walk dogs on short leashes in areas where coyotes have been sighted recently. You can report unusual coyote behavior (such as approaching people, aggressiveness, or a coyote with an obvious injury) to the Police Department at our non-emergency line (561) 838-5454 or the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (561) 625-5122.
