Project updates will be provided monthly for the public until the marina is completed. The first meeting will be held virtually on Google Meet at 3:00 p.m., April 29, 2020. Topics will include construction timeline, what to expect regarding site set up, mobilization, traffic impact and other project related items. For those who would like to participate in the meeting, please email firstname.lastname@example.org to be added to the list of attendees. Residents and constituents must email in advance to be added to the call. Questions regarding the project may be sent to the same email address by 5:00 p.m. April 28, 2020. The PowerPoint presentation from the virtual meeting will be made available on the Town’s Marina Project page (found at townofpalmbeach.com). Additionally, the Town is still in the process of concept design for the potential improvements to Lake Drive Park and the marina parking lots and will schedule a virtual public meeting to review these concepts when they are completed.
First constructed in the 1940s the docks have been expanded and updated with the last renovations conducted in 1993 and 1998, each time reusing the existing concrete piles and pile caps, which are now more than 60 years old. In January 2017 Town Council directed staff to issue a Request for Proposal to hire a consulting firm to prepare a master plan for the Town Marina. W.F. Baird was awarded the contract in September 2017, and following group meetings to ensure opportunities for the general public, marina customers, elected officials, and other stakeholders to provide feedback, a draft Master Plan was presented to Town Council in April 2018. The final design option was approved at the May 2018 Town Council meeting. The following 15 months included ARCOM review and approval, permitting with state and federal agencies, Town Council updates to ensure the elected officials and public were informed of progress and completion of the design and permitting process. Financing for the project was approved by Town Council on February 11, 2020; the Town secured two Florida Inland Navigation grants during the design and permitting phase of this project. One was for $325,000 for design expenses and one was for $3.1 million for construction. Both were based on the approved and permitted dock layout. The Town Council awarded the contract to Murray Logan Construction, Inc. on Tuesday, March 10, 2020.
