The Town of Palm Beach is hosting our third Blood Drive this year on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The Big Red Bus will be located in front of the Police Station at 345 South County Road. All donors will receive a movie ticket and a wellness checkup.
Preparing beforehand is important for your body’s recovery and the donation process. A few days prior plan to eat iron-rich foods and drink plenty of water. Get a good night’s rest the night before to help with a successful donation. Below is a list of foods to incorporate in your diet this week.
Iron Fortified Foods
- Breakfast cereals w/iron
- Quinoa and brown rice
- Whole grain and enriched breads
- Broccoli, Spinach, Collard Greens, Swiss Chard
- Cashews
- Baked Potatoes
- Tofu
- Legumes (beans, lentils, chickpeas)
- Shellfish (particularly, clams and mussels)
- Poultry (turkey, chicken)
- Red Meats (steak, ground beef, liver)
One pint of blood collected can save up to three patients in need. Each donation is instrumental in assuring that blood is available to patients in our local hospitals whose lives depend on it.
