[ARCHIVED] Sea Turtle Laws

Patch Transparent

The Palm Beach Police Department wants to remind residents and beachgoers that sea turtles are either endangered or threatened (the loggerhead is the only species that has a population high enough to be only threatened in Florida). They are protected under the Florida's Marine Turtle Protection Act, F.S.S.379.2431.

Florida Statutes prohibits knowingly and intentionally taking, possessing, disturbing, mutilating, destroying, selling, transferring, molesting, and harassing of marine turtles, nests or eggs.

Please ensure that you or your pets do not disturb or tamper with sea turtles, hatchlings or their nests. Also, all pets must be under the command of their owner or handler and not creating a nuisance to other animals or persons using the beach.

If you have any questions contact Michael Ogrodnick, Training and Community Relations Coordinator, at 561-227-5467.
