Temporary Animal Permits

Regulations

The issuance of Temporary Animal Permits is regulated by Section 10-10 of the Town Code, a summary of which follows:

  • The applicant must abide by the most recently adopted rules and regulations designated as the Wildlife Code of the state as formulated by the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
  • The permit is good for no longer than 12 hours.
  • The applicant must specify in their application specific times the animals will be present at the property and, if different, the specific times the animals will be on display.
  • No animals are permitted in residentially zoned areas other than class III wildlife as designated by the state and those for which a permit is not required pursuant to FAC rule 68A-6.0022.
  • Class I and class II wildlife may be allowed on all town owned property and all commercial, R-D(1), R-D(2) and PUD-A zoning districts provided that a minimum setback buffer of 50 feet is maintained between the location of the wildlife and the nearest adjacent residentially zoned areas.

Requirements

Below are the requirements to obtain a Temporary Animal Permit:

  • Temporary animal permit applications are due at least 30 days prior to the event.
  • The application fee is $250, if the application is received at least 30 days in advance. A fee of $100 will be assessed in the event of a late application.
  • A floor/site plan must be submitted indicating the location of the animals to be displayed and the location of the people that will be in attendance to view the animals.
  • Adequate proof that a sufficient number of trained animal handler(s) licensed or permitted by the state will be present and responsible for the handling of any animal permitted for the duration of the event.
  • A certificate of insurance naming the town as insured shall be provided for an amount of insurance not less than $5,000,000.00 to indemnify the town against any and all liability relating to the presence of the animals in the town. A certificate of insurance shall not be required for events relating to animals appropriate for a petting zoo.
